Dear Quilting friends,
You might be at the end-of-the-year stage of your quilt which means you are
finishing it off and hoping to get it done before the New Year so that you can
get your teeth stuck into a new project. Well….. Guess what ?! This is an ideal
time to come and buy your fabric for that new project. The sale is still on and
new fabric has come in which also has the reduced prices of 20% off.
The shop will close and the sale will end on Wednesday 24th December at 2 pm.
We shall re-open on Monday the 5th January at 9.30 am.

We are hoping to get Marie du Toit to give a new quilting workshop and Helen
Granville to give a Seminole workshop in May/June/July. As soon as a date is set
you will be the first to know in the January newsletter.
The different guilds of South Africa are making a concerted effort to introduce
patchwork to the younger folk in our communities and Simmy has approached 6
schools in the southern suburbs with the intention of teaching the youth after
school once or twice a month. Linda Wiggett from Daisy Quilting is also involved
in this and we hoping to start small groups of youngsters and encourage them to
learn by hand or machine.
Patchwork and quilting lessons are on-going at the shop being either from 9.30 to
12.30 or from 1.30 to 4.30 on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday. Occasional lessons will be given on a Saturday morning at the shop, but
these need to be organized into a workshop course. Lessons will be R70 for 3
hours as from January 2009 – sorry.
The following workshops are available:
Traditional sampler quilt – either lap size, single bed or double bed.
Strip piecing – triple rail fence, Amish techniques, quillows etc
Foundation paper piecing – Mariners compass, school house etc.
Naïve appliqué
Hand quilting
Mitered corners binding, abutted corners binding
AND MANY MORE.
If you need inspiration you are more than welcome to come and browse through
our books and magazines and “steal with your eyes”. We’ll even keep you topped
up on tea, coffee or a cool drink.
The next Good Hope Quilters Guild meeting is on the 7th February at the
Northlink College in Plattekloof. The theme will be friendship and you are
encouraged to bring a friend or get someone to bring you to the meeting. We can
help you on the latter and give you more details on the meeting.
The most important things to do now are to relax, enjoy this special time of
year, sew up a storm and remember to tell those who are dear to you that you
love them.
Always stitching,
Holly, Mavis, Simmy and Tania.
